Gurduara Sahib

Welcome

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh ||

{Khalsa belongs to Waheguru (Creator Lord), Victory is gifted by Waheguru (Creator Lord)}

Welcome to Sikh Mission of Virginia ("SMV"), a faith based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of Human Race and Sikhi way of life. We have been serving the growing communities of Warrenton, Gainesville, Haymarket, Ashburn, Aldie, Dulles, Sterling, Herndon, Leesburg, Reston, South Riding and surrounding areas of Washington Metro in the National capital. Our community outreach programs and youth initiatives are designed to help those in need, and create future global leaders. We do not require that you belong to any particular religious affiliation or financially support our organization in any way, however, donations are always welcome. We do ask that you return one good deed with another and perform an act of kindness to another. This way, the cycle of love, compassion and goodwill continues indefinitely.

Mool Nanakshahi Calendar

SMV follows Mool Nanakshahi Calendar, where 1 Chet (equates to March 14 according to Julien Calendar) is the New Year celebrated by the global Sikh community.

To understand and find out more about the Nanakshahi calendar, please review the following link: http://www.moolnanakshahicalendar.com

Some of the features of Nanakshahi calendar are: tropical solar calendar, year one is the year of Guru Nanak Birth (CE 1469), length of year is the same as western calendar, 2021 CE is Nanashahi 553, and much more. Until Mool Nanakshahi Calendar was introduced, Nanakshahi Sampat was used that is linked to Bikrami Sampat calendar.

Interfaith

In the spirit of Interfaith, we wish all our neighbors and community members a very HAPPY NEW YEAR. While our Christian neighbors celebrate Christmas as a joyous holiday in the month December, Sikhs around the globe celebrate the lives of the 10th Mehl, Guru Gobind Singh ji’s sons, Sahibzada Baba Ajit Singh ji (18 years old), Sahibzada Baba Jhujhar Singh ji (16 years old), Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh ji (9 years old), Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh ji (6 years old), Mata Gujar Kaur ji (Mother of Guru Gobind Singh ji) and Sikh Khalsa community who upheld freedom of thought and action while defending freedom of religion and right to live as independent human beings against all odds of oppression and cruelty subjected by rulers based on power and faith.

"What you shall sow, you shall reap"

-- Japji Sahib

May Akal Purakh Parmaatamaa (Creator Lord) bless the New Year with good health, love, compassion, and service to all Humanity. Be kind, meditate on Creator Lord’s Naam (Name) and treat all mankind/human race as One.
